Valentine's Day Cupcakes


  • 1 ½ cup all purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup cocoa
  • 2/3 cup butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Cooking spray

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Line a muffin tin with foil muffin liners.
  3. Place a marble between the muffin tin and each muffin liner. Shape the liner into a heart shape.
  4. Spray the muffin liners with cooking spray.
  5. Stir together the flour, baking powder, salt and cocoa in a bowl and set aside.
  6. Cream together the softened butter and sugar.
  7. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating after each until the egg is well mixed.
  8. Add the vanilla.
  9. Stir in the dry ingredients and mix well.
  10. Fill each muffin cup 2/3 full of batter.
  11. Bake 15-18 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center of a cupcake comes out clean.
  12. Remove from muffin tin and cool on a baker's rack..
  13. Allow the marbles to cool in the muffin tin. Don't attempt to remove them before they are cool, as they will be very hot.
  14. Frost heart shaped muffins with this buttercream frosting, tinted pink with a few drops of red food coloring.
Frosting Ingredients:

  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 Tablespoons milk
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • Food coloring (Optional)
  1. Cream together the butter, vanilla and milk.
  2. Gradually add the powdered sugar.
  3. Beat until smooth.
  4. Add food coloring, a few drops at a time, until the frosting is the desired color.
  5. Frost cooled cupcakes.
  6. Decorate with candy hearts.
